Interurban Trolley Approves Plan to Reduce Day Pass Price to $2 and Discontinue Transfers
The Interurban Trolley completes public comment period and approves fare changes for the Interurban Trolley fixed-route service. These changes involve the discontinuation of transfers, mitigated by the reduction in the price of a Day Pass to $2.00, and the retirement of trolley tokens.
James Turnwald, Executive Director of the Michiana Area Council of Governments (MACOG) said, “During the public comment period we received positive feedback supporting the fare changes. Although we are discontinuing transfers, these fare changes will lower the cost to riders who ride the trolley multiple times per day. The phased implementation for this fare change will help reduce rider confusion and provide immediate benefits to riders with the reduced cost of a day pass.”
The dates these fare changes will be phased in and take effect are as follows:
The trolley base fare of $1.00 per ride will remain the same. Trolley tokens will be replaced with a one ride trolley pass, for $1.00, accepted for one boarding on one Interurban Trolley route, and a one ride Access punch card, costing $2.00, valid for a one-way Access trip for qualified riders.
The Interurban Trolley is also introducing new schedules on the Orange, Blue, and Red Lines, effective January 2, 2019. Some intermediate stops will have modified pick-up times to improve schedule reliability and on-time performance. The schedule changes will not affect departure times of trolleys at the Downtown Elkhart Transfer Center.
