NEW YELLOW LINE BUS SERVICE BETWEEN DOWNTOWN ELKHART AND DOWNTOWN MISHAWAKA BEGINS AUGUST 20, 2018
Yellow Line Fares will be Free to all Riders from August 20 to August 25
MISHAWAKA, IN –The Interurban Trolley and the South Bend Public Transportation Corporation (Transpo), announce the launch of the new Yellow Line Mishawaka/Elkhart route that will begin operation on Monday, August 20, 2018.
The new Yellow Line route will run between the Interurban Trolley’s Transfer Center in downtown Elkhart and Transpo’s Mishawaka Transfer Center in downtown Mishawaka. It will operate every 30 minutes between 5:00am and 7:00pm during weekdays, and every 60 minutes between 5:30am and 6:00pm on weekends. Some trips will be provided by Transpo buses and others by the Interurban Trolley.
“We are proud to partner with Transpo and launch the new and improved Yellow Line that will provide better connectivity between Elkhart and Mishawaka” said James Turnwald, Executive Director of the Michiana Area Council of Governments, “This new service will increase regional connectivity and enhance regional transit options.”
“We are excited to partner with the Interurban Trolley on the launch of the new jointly-operated Yellow Line” said Amy Hill, Interim General Manager and CEO of Transpo, “Integrated fares allowing riders to use Transpo passes to go all the way to downtown Elkhart should increase transit ridership, and opens up more destinations and employment opportunities for our riders.”
The new Yellow Line will result in the discontinuation of Transpo Route 9 between the Mishawaka Transfer Center and Bittersweet Road and the currently existing Interurban Trolley Yellow Line. However, Transpo Route 9 will continue to operate via its existing route at the current service times between South Street Station in South Bend and the Mishawaka Transfer Center.
The new Yellow Line will charge the same $1.00 fare per one-way trip as existing Transpo and Interurban Trolley routes. Buses on the Yellow Line will accept both Transpo and Interurban Trolley 1-Day, 14-Day, and 31-Day Passes. Interurban Trolley transfers will not be accepted on the new Yellow Line.
Fares on the Yellow Line will be free from Monday, August 20, 2018 through Saturday, August 25, 2018 to promote the launch of the route.
The Interurban Trolley will also be changing two of its fare policies to be consistent with Transpo. Seniors 65 years and older and customers with disabilities with a valid Medicare or Handi-Card may now ride with reduced fares at all times, instead of just during non-peak hours as they do currently. The age of children riding free will be reduced from 5 and under to 4 and under to match Transpo’s polices.
The public is encouraged to visit www.interurbantrolley.com/yellow_line for full details of the service changes.
