Proposed Fare Changes For the Interurban Trolley Fixed Route Service
Public Comment Period – November 1 through November 30, 2018
The Interurban Trolley announces a public comment period to discuss proposed fare changes for the Interurban Trolley fixed route service. Proposed changes will affect the Day Pass, transfers, and trolley tokens.
The proposed fare changes include a reduction in price of the current $3.00 Day Pass to $2.00. Additionally, free transfers that are currently offered for passengers to complete a one-way trip will be discontinued. The new $2.00 Day Pass will function the same, continuing to provide riders with unlimited rides on all Interurban routes during a single day of service.
The Interurban Trolley is also proposing to retire trolley tokens after December 31, 2018. Tokens are proposed to be replaced with a one ride trolley pass, to be sold for $1.00, accepted for one boarding on one Interurban Trolley route, and a one ride Access punch card to be sold for $2.00. MACOG will work with social service providers and other organizations in the region that may have excess token inventories and allow these providers to exchange their tokens for the new one ride trolley passes,
trolley day passes, and one ride Access punch cards.
All other Interurban Trolley Passes, 10 Ride Access Punch Cards, Cash Fares and policies will remain
unchanged at this time.
The proposed $2.00 Day Pass will be available for purchase on board the Trolley, online at www.interurbantrolley.com through Pay Pal and at Martin’s Supermarket locations in Elkhart and Goshen, IN.
James Turnwald, Executive Director of the Michiana Area Council of Governments (MACOG) said, “Although we are proposing to discontinue transfers, we are lowering the price of a day pass to just $2. This means a rider could ride an unlimited number of times for $2 a day. This allows riders who take multiple trips to lower their fare cost while increasing how frequently they can ride.”
The public is encouraged to visit www.interurbantrolley.com/public_comment for full details of the proposed fare changes and to provide public comments.
A Public Open House to discuss the proposed changes will be held on Tuesday, November 20, 2018 from 4:00pm to 5:30pm at the Elkhart Public Library (downtown), 300 S. 2nd St., Elkhart, IN.
In addition, staff will be available at the Downtown Elkhart Transfer Center, on Franklin Street between 2nd and 3rd Streets on Thursday, November 8, and Tuesday, November 13, from 2:00pm to 5:00pm.
